Elan Valley, Wales - May 2002

As spring warmed up, five of us chose to go to the Elan Valley, to Rhayader, west of Leominster for the weekend. And what wonderful weather we had - a whole day of glorious sunshine on the Saturday, and a pretty fine Sunday too - with no rain - in Wales!
This is a seriously pretty part of Wales and almost devoid of tourists on the desolate hills. In five hours on the Saturday we met one other couple - I apologised for spoiling their solitude. And on the Sunday we met one farmer - because we walked through his farm!
Everyone we met, either on the hills or in Rhayader where we camped, was very friendly. The camp-site was great, right by the young Wye, and so was the pub-grub. I'd highly recommend a visit here.
